Why Wike Says 2027 Presidential Election Is Already Decided

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stirred political waters yet again, this time with a bold declaration about the 2027 presidential election that has left many Nigerians buzzing.

In a recent interview that surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) via user @Imranmuhdz, Wike confidently predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would clinch victory again in 2027. The video, which quickly gained traction, features Wike speaking candidly about his political position, loyalty, and perspective on the future of the presidency.

When asked whether he would consider running for president if the ticket is zoned to the South, Wike dismissed the idea outright. “I no go contest again,” he said with a casual certainty. “Why I go contest against somebody wey I dey work with?”

The remark was as much about loyalty as it was about strategic political thinking. Wike, who served as a key political player during the 2023 elections and is now one of the most influential cabinet members under Tinubu, made it clear that contesting against the president would not only be disloyal but unnecessary.

Pressed further on whether this meant he was backing Tinubu for re-election, Wike responded with rhetorical confidence: “Na who go win am?”, a line that many have interpreted as a subtle way of declaring the 2027 race already decided in Tinubu’s favor.

While the statement has sparked a flurry of reactions online, it has also raised deeper questions: Is Wike reading the political terrain correctly? Or is this just another well-timed political message aimed at securing his own standing within the ruling party?

Mixed Reactions Trail Statement

Social media, as expected, had a field day.

@alege_miebaka wrote: “You de believe Wike?? lol. Wike go carry all APC people handicap very soon. The fear of Wike make una give am appointment… I dare APC to dump Wike before 2027, make una see if una go win election. Lol. Wike is PDP presidential aspirant 2027 or 2031.”

@donpanacio shared a different view: “Despite his political stubbornness, Wike knows his job so well & remains the best FCT minister since 1999! Tinubu cannot give a mediocre the office of FCT Minister.”

@SymplysadeeQ noted: “I know what Wike is saying. He is not happy seeing the likes of Abiye Sekibo, Celestine Omehia, Uche Secondus, Lee Maeba and co. around Fubara.”

Others focused on Wike’s media charm and growing influence. @OyedemiBabs commented: “Look how this lady got answers that journalists couldn’t get from him in previous interviews.”

@mardortii laughed off the tension: “Fubara is my boy lol politician. Before he made this statement, I’m sure something is now working between Wike and Fubara.”
