Tinubu Inaugurates New NNPCL Board, Reaffirms Commitment to Energy Reform

President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in the newly constituted board and management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), formally inaugurating the team over a month after their appointment on April 2, 2025.

The swearing-in ceremony, held Thursday afternoon at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, was presided over by the President. It marked a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing effort to reposition Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Among those sworn in were Ahmadu Kida, the Non-Executive Chairman of the board, and Bashir Ojulari, who assumes office as the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL. Other board members were also formally inducted during the brief but symbolic event.

Shortly after the ceremony, President Tinubu proceeded to the State House Banquet Hall to participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit.

The 11-member board reflects a broad national representation, with members drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as well as key federal ministries.

  • Adedapo Segun and Bello Rabiu – Representing the North West
  • Yusuf Usman – North East
  • Babs Omotowa – North Central; former MD of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG)
  • Austin Avuru – South-South (Non-Executive Director)
  • David Ige – South-West
  • Henry Obih – South-East
  • Lydia Jafiya – Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance
  • Aminu Ahmed – Representative, Ministry of Petroleum Resources

The event was attended by several top-ranking government officials, including Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri.
