“You Don’t Lock Up Your Family House” — Bode George Slams Wike Over PDP Secretariat Sealing

Elder statesman and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has come down hard on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for sealing the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, describing the action as a grave insult to the party and its legacy.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, George lashed out at FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, calling the move “sacrilegious” and an unnecessary provocation. He accused Wike, a long-time beneficiary of the PDP, of turning his back on the very party that launched his political career.

“This is the party that made you,” George said. “Locking up the PDP Secretariat over a N7 million rent issue is like sealing your family house because of unpaid dues. As minister, Wike could have settled that in one swoop.”

The PDP stalwart reminded Nigerians of Wike’s rise within the party, from local government chairman to chief of staff, governor of Rivers State for two terms, and now a minister, all thanks to the PDP’s platform.

He questioned the motive behind the action, especially as it came just hours before a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, describing the timing as suspicious and politically charged.

“This is not just about money. It was a calculated move. What image are we putting out there? You don’t disgrace your home in public,” George lamented.

He went further to challenge the FCTA to apply the same standards to other parties. “Let them check the APC’s headquarters too. They might find similar rent issues. This wasn’t about the debt, it was about sending a message, and that message is dangerous.”

Warning against any attempt to hijack or privatise the PDP, George declared, “This party has a structure, history, and identity. No one, not even a minister, can take it over or treat it like personal property.”

He ended with a word of caution to Wike: “Power is transient. One day, this ministry will be over. When that day comes, what legacy will you leave behind?”
