Nigerian music sensation Rema created an emotional highlight during his sold-out concert at the O2 Arena in London by paying tribute to Afrobeats legend, D’banj.

In a moment that drew loud cheers from the audience, Rema invited D’banj on stage and publicly acknowledged the veteran singer’s role in taking Afrobeats to global heights, particularly in the United Kingdom.

He specifically referenced Oliver Twist, D’banj’s 2012 hit that made history as the first Nigerian song to break into the UK’s official top 10 chart.

“You were one of the first ones to bring Afrobeats to the UK. You and Don Jazzy held it down. Y’all opened that door,” Rema said.

In a touching note of appreciation, he added: “I appreciate you for life. I love you from the bottom of my heart. If you never existed, I would have never existed.”

The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause as the two artistes embraced on stage, symbolising the passing of the torch from one generation of Afrobeats stars to the next.

The tribute has since been widely praised as a show of humility and gratitude in an industry often defined by competition.
