NCAA Spokesperson Schools Nigerians on Why Arriving Late at Airports Isn’t an Option

Michael Achimugu, spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has taken to social media to set the record straight about air travel timelines, particularly for domestic flights.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Achimugu explained that passengers are expected to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight’s scheduled departure time. According to him, showing up just 10 minutes before takeoff is not only risky but qualifies a passenger as late, regardless of the circumstances.

Read his post:

“Airlines are not required to delay their flights because you showed up at the last minute,” he noted, addressing what he described as a common misconception among Nigerian travelers.

Achimugu’s post comes amid rising complaints on social media from passengers who claim they were unfairly denied boarding, despite arriving shortly before takeoff. The NCAA spokesperson emphasized that standard aviation procedures are not unique to Nigeria but are international norms aimed at ensuring smooth and safe operations.

He urged Nigerians to take personal responsibility when flying, advising travelers to factor in airport checks, boarding protocols, and possible delays at the entrance or check-in counters.
