Tunde Bakare Clears Air on Tinubu Meeting: “What Am I Looking For?”

Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has clarified the motive behind his recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating emphatically that it was not driven by any personal or political ambition.
Bakare, who was a contender in the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries, visited the president at his Lagos residence on June 4, a development that quickly sparked speculation across media and political circles.
Addressing the growing conversation during a sermon in his church, Bakare debunked claims suggesting the visit was an attempt to seek political appointment or personal gain.
“Some people still think he has gone there to settle himself,” he said during the sermon. “In what way have I settled myself before? What they gave me, I returned. What am I looking for?”
Bakare, known for his forthrightness and previous critiques of political leadership, maintained that his actions remain consistent with his values of integrity and public accountability.
The meeting had raised eyebrows given Bakare’s past opposition to certain political developments in the country, including criticism of Tinubu’s policies. However, Bakare made it clear that his visit should not be misinterpreted as a shift in principles or alignment for personal gain.
He did not provide further details about the content of the meeting, but his comments suggested a desire to dispel public mistrust and to reiterate that he remains focused on national transformation, not political positioning.
Observers continue to watch closely as the political and religious leader navigates his relationship with the administration in the lead-up to future national discourse.
