See What Portable Said About a Nollywood Actor After AMVCA Snub

Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has taken a swipe at the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), accusing them of deliberately snubbing veteran actor Ibrahim Chatta at the just-concluded 11th edition of the event.

Chatta, who earned a nomination in the Best Lead Actor category for his outstanding performance in House of GAA, lost out to Femi Adebayo, who clinched the award for his role in Seven Doors. Chioma Chukwuka also took home the Best Lead Actress award on the same night.

Reacting via a video on Instagram, Portable poured out his frustration, alleging bias and favouritism within the entertainment industry.

“My fans, there is a gang up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood. They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta an award at the 11th AMVCA despite his impeccable acting. That was how I was also snubbed by The Headies Awards,” he said.

The singer didn’t stop there. He criticised the culture of awards in Nigeria, claiming accolades often go to the highest bidder or those with clout, not necessarily the most deserving.

“We don’t need awards. We need food, we need money. We have money but we can’t use money to buy awards like some persons. Ibrahim Chatta, if they don’t award you, God will reward you. My boss, you are my mentor. I love you.”

This isn’t the first time Ibrahim Chatta’s treatment by award bodies has stirred public debate. Back in 2023, he hinted at a conspiracy behind his repeated AMVCA snubs, a claim that resurfaced with this latest controversy.
