Video: Moment JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede Apologizes to Parents Over UTME Errors

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), was overcome with emotion as he tearfully apologized to parents and candidates following the technical glitches that severely affected the performance of students in the 2025 UTME.
In an emotional turn of events, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, broke down in tears while publicly apologizing to parents and candidates after the board admitted to errors that impacted the performance of hundreds of thousands of students during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The emotional apology came after numerous complaints from students who experienced system failures, incomplete questions, and other technical issues during the exam. Following a thorough investigation, JAMB confirmed that errors in the exam’s execution led to incorrect scores and widespread dissatisfaction.
In a recently surfaced video, Oloyede, visibly distressed, addressed the camera:
“What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” he said, his voice shaking. “We set all the machinery in place, but regardless, there were still errors.”

His apology comes after significant backlash, with over 370,000 candidates slated to retake the exam due to these glitches, which were traced to 157 out of 887 centres across Nigeria.
The video has sparked a mixture of sympathy and criticism on social media, with many parents appreciating his heartfelt apology, while others question the integrity of the systems put in place by the board.
While the board has promised a thorough investigation and a solution for those affected, the emotional apology from the JAMB registrar has put the issue at the forefront of public debate, calling attention to the urgency of fixing the country’s examination system.
