Army Chief Assures Nigerians of Imminent Victory Over National Threats

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has assured Nigerians that the country will soon overcome its internal security challenges, vowing that the enemies of Nigeria will be brought to their knees.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede made the promise on Friday during the closing ceremony of the Nigerian Army Inter-Formation Ball Games 2025, held at the old site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.
Represented by the NDA Commandant, Major General Abdul Ibrahim, the Army Chief emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian Army to uphold its constitutional responsibilities, adding that efforts to restore peace and stability across the nation remain a top priority.
“As an Army, we shall continue to discharge our constitutional responsibilities to the best of our ability, and with bright prospects that the enemies of our country will soon be brought to their knees,” Oluyede stated.
The week-long tournament brought together 250 soldiers from formations including 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 81, and 82 Divisions, as well as the Army Headquarters Garrison and the Special Forces Command. They competed in handball, basketball, football, and volleyball, showcasing physical agility and military spirit.
General Oluyede applauded the athletes for their discipline, resilience, and strong sense of teamwork, noting that the competition had fostered not only fitness but camaraderie among personnel.
He urged all participants to carry the values of courage, discipline, mutual respect, and unity—hallmarks of military sports—back to their various divisions.
1 Division emerged as the overall winner with five gold medals, followed by Army Headquarters Garrison with two golds, while 6 Division finished third with one gold medal.
Oluyede expressed optimism that the Army’s Directorate of Physical Training had discovered new athletic talents capable of representing the Nigerian Army—and the country—at national and international competitions.
He also thanked the Kaduna State Government, the NDA leadership, and other stakeholders for their support in organizing the event. In his remarks, he extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “unwavering support” to the Nigerian Army.
