“Benue Is Bleeding”: VeryDarkMan Condemns Yelewata Massacre in Emotional Video

Nigerian social media activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has posted a disturbing video from Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where over 200 people were allegedly killed in a coordinated attack on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

The video, which carries a trigger warning due to graphic and unsettling content, shows the aftermath of the massacre, burnt homes, lifeless bodies, and devastated survivors. VeryDarkMan used the platform to call out the Nigerian government, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing authorities of neglecting the worsening insecurity in the region.

“Is this what you promised Nigerians during your campaign? Look at this video — for how long will this continue?” he asked in the emotionally charged post.

In the video, a visibly shocked local recounted how the attackers, identified as suspected Fulani herdsmen, first targeted policemen stationed in the area before turning on civilians.

“They poured fuel and burned everywhere,” the eyewitness said, explaining that although the police attempted to resist, they were overwhelmed. He also praised the bravery of community youths who rose up to fight back.

The influencer’s post suggests a growing frustration with the silence of mainstream media, hinting that journalists may be under pressure to suppress coverage.

“Maybe the media has been paid to shut up,” he alleged, urging citizens and civil society groups to speak up before more lives are lost.

The attack reportedly left dozens of homes destroyed, displacing hundreds of families and further intensifying the humanitarian crisis already facing the region.

As of now, Benue State authorities and federal security agencies have not released an official statement or confirmed the number of casualties. However, residents say the figure could exceed 200, making it one of the deadliest assaults in recent times.

Benue, known as part of Nigeria’s “Middle Belt”, has long been plagued by clashes between herders and farming communities. However, observers say the nature of recent attacks — involving heavy arson and mass killings — signals a dangerous escalation.

The video has triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for immediate government intervention, justice for the victims, and better protection for vulnerable communities.

One user commented, “This is not just an attack, it’s genocide. And the silence from Abuja is deafening.”
