Bright Chimezie Hails Davido and Omah Lay for Sampling His Classic Song in ‘With You’

Veteran Nigerian Highlife maestro Bright Chimezie has showered praises on Afrobeats stars Davido and Omah Lay for sampling his iconic track ‘Because of English’ in their new collaborative song ‘With You’.

In a heartwarming video posted on his official Instagram page, Chimezie could be seen dancing energetically to the new song, expressing appreciation for the tribute.

“You can see I am vibing to the song already. It’s a beautiful piece of work, very wonderful,” he said. “I appreciate the fact that you said you picked the inspiration from this song I recorded many years ago; I appreciate you for that.”

Davido, clearly moved by the gesture, responded in Igbo, writing:

“Ihe di ka gi akokwala m. Chief Sir Bright Chimezie, Ezigbote Onye Egwu,” which translates to “People like you inspire me. Chief Sir Bright Chimezie, a true music legend.”

The track ‘With You’, produced by Tempoe, is part of Davido’s fifth studio album and blends contemporary Afrobeats with classic Highlife and Funk rhythms — a sound Bright Chimezie helped popularize in the 1970s and 80s.
