Church Building Collapses During Service in Taraba, Injures Worshippers

A Sunday worship service in Taraba State turned tragic after a church building collapsed, injuring several congregants.
The incident occurred at the United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN), situated behind the Police Divisional Office in Jantaro community, Mutum-Biyu, the headquarters of Gassol Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the collapse happened during heavy rainfall accompanied by a violent windstorm on Sunday, June 15, 2025. While no fatalities were recorded, many worshippers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Those hurt in the incident were promptly taken to the Mutumbiyu Referral Hospital for medical attention. Others who suffered fractures were reportedly rushed to a traditional bone setter within the community.
Speaking with Daily Trust, the local bone healer, Alhaji Baffa Wanzami, confirmed that he attended to three worshippers with broken limbs, including a young girl. “Some of those that got fractures, including a little girl, were brought to me and I set their fractured bones,” he said.
