Afrobeats superstar Davido has proudly affirmed his Igbo heritage in response to a controversial tribal comment that criticized his close ties with the Igbo community.

The drama unfolded on X (formerly Twitter), where a user, @yakbel, accused the singer of associating too closely with Igbos, warning that it could lead to betrayal. The post read in part:

“Davido just dey carry Ibo full body… Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them…”

Unfazed by the sentiment, Davido clapped back with a brief but powerful reply:

“lol I AM IGBO by blood.”

The comment sparked a wave of reactions across social media, with many praising the singer for embracing his mixed heritage and rejecting divisive tribal rhetoric.

This exchange comes shortly after Davido’s widely publicized visit to legendary highlife musician Bright Chimezie, where the duo shared a warm moment in Lagos , a gesture that further stirred conversation about his cultural affiliations.

Davido, born David Adedeji Adeleke, is of Yoruba and Igbo descent, his late mother, Veronica Adeleke, hailed from the southeastern part of Nigeria. His latest comment serves as a bold statement against tribal divisions in a time when national unity is more crucial than ever.
