The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called for calm over the recent public uproar surrounding a viral video showing Niger Delta leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, during his birthday celebration.

The clip, which circulated widely on social media, captures Tompolo dancing while someone flings bundles of ₦1,000 notes in the air , an act many say amounts to Naira abuse. The footage triggered a wave of reactions online, with Nigerians urging the EFCC to take action to show that no one is above the law.

Responding to the outrage, Olukoyede confirmed in a TV interview that Tompolo has been invited for questioning. However, he urged the public not to jump to conclusions until investigations are complete.

“It’s still just an allegation,” Olukoyede said. “We’ve invited him, and we’re also examining the video closely. These days, things can be manipulated — so we’re conducting a forensic review.”

He stressed that Tompolo, like any other Nigerian, deserves a fair hearing. “No one is above the law, but at the same time, we must avoid trial by public opinion. Let’s allow the process to run its course.”

The EFCC boss reiterated the commission’s commitment to fairness and due process, even as the agency continues its clampdown on acts of Naira abuse across the country.
