Elon Musk Exposes How He Helped Trump Win the Election, Blasts ‘Ingratitude’ in Latest Feud

The public feud between U.S. President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk intensified Thursday, June 5, as the Tesla and SpaceX CEO slammed Trump’s economic policies, and claimed credit for his political victory.

Responding to Trump’s criticism over his opposition to the GOP’s new tax-and-spending bill, Musk fired off a blunt message on X (formerly Twitter):

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”

In the comment section, Musk added, “Such ingratitude.”

The war of words erupted after Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that his relationship with Musk may be over.

“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore… I’ve helped Elon a lot,” Trump said before a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

He expressed disappointment that Musk, who once served as head of the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was now one of the most vocal critics of the bill.

“He hasn’t said anything bad about me—yet. But I’m very disappointed. He’s mad because we’re removing the EV mandate,” Trump added, referring to the bill’s cut of electric vehicle tax incentives.

But Musk wasn’t having it. In another scathing post, he wrote:

“Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill.”

He also disputed Trump’s claim that he’d seen the bill before it passed:

“False. This bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”

The sharp exchange has laid bare the unraveling of a once-tight alliance between two of America’s most powerful—and polarizing—figures. What started as mutual admiration has now devolved into a bitter power struggle playing out in real time.
