Ex-LASTMA Officer Opens Up About One Costly Mistake That Changed Everything

Mr. Oluwaseyi, a former officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has shared a gripping account of how a single mistake turned his once-thriving life into a daily struggle for survival.
In a heartfelt street interview with popular content creator Yomilistens, Oluwaseyi opened up about his journey from earning thousands of naira daily to working as a security man. His story, raw and emotional, serves as a sobering lesson on choices, trust, and the consequences that follow.
According to him, about 17 to 18 years ago, he was making up to N30,000 every day, saving N20,000 consistently, and enjoying a comfortable life. With steady monthly earnings of approximately N460,000, Oluwaseyi said he invested in two commercial buses and a private car for business. Things were going well, until they weren’t.
The problem, he said, began when he entrusted the management of his vehicles to friends. Over time, the business crumbled due to mismanagement and betrayal. One bad decision led to another, and the walls of stability started to collapse around him.
But the turning point came during his time with LASTMA. He admitted that drinking while on duty, specifically while posted at Bolade-Oshodi, was the beginning of the end. Repeated misconducts led to his eventual dismissal from the force. That, he said, was the biggest mistake of his life.
“I was stubborn. I drank while on duty. It was a mistake I now deeply regret,” he confessed. “I lost everything because I didn’t listen.”

Now working as a security man, Oluwaseyi says he uses his painful past as a lesson for his children, warning them against the same pitfalls that cost him his career and comfort.
“I tell them everything. I don’t hide my failures. They need to understand that one wrong move can ruin everything you’ve worked for,” he added.
