“God Warned Me My Firstborn Would Die If I Left RCCG” — Pastor Adeboye Shares Deep Revelation

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has made a chilling yet faith-affirming revelation: God once warned him that leaving the church He planted him in would cost him his firstborn child.

Adeboye shared the revelation during the June Holy Ghost Service themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held in the early hours of Saturday at the Redemption City, Ogun State.

While preaching on the power of divine direction and spiritual loyalty, the revered cleric took a moment to reflect on his early walk with God and the choices he had to make—choices that shaped not just his destiny, but that of a global ministry.

“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were booming, and honestly, they looked very attractive,” Adeboye said, his voice heavy with reflection. “There were temptations to leave RCCG and join one of them. But God told me clearly, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”

The revelation drew a gasp from the crowd gathered at the massive auditorium — a mix of awe and reverence. Pastor Adeboye said that warning from God sealed his spiritual commitment and anchored him firmly within the church.

He also recalled a pivotal moment in his life that tested his humility and obedience: submitting to spiritual authority despite holding a PhD and being a university lecturer, while his spiritual father, the church’s founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, had no formal education.

“My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school. In fact, not even primary. But God said to me: ‘This is your place. Stay here.’ So I stayed.”

At the time, RCCG had its headquarters in a humble building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos — a far cry from the sprawling Redemption City and the church’s current presence in over 190 nations. Still, Adeboye said, it was not about status or popularity, but alignment with divine purpose.

The respected cleric used the moment to caution young Christians against the rising trend of church-hopping, driven by sensationalism or convenience. He urged believers to seek God’s direction before changing churches or spiritual homes.

“Some people jump from one church to another because the choir sings better or the auditorium is bigger,” he said. “But the question is: Did God plant you there? Discover where He wants you to be—and stay there.”

He also clarified that his message was not about elevating RCCG above other Christian denominations.

“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” Pastor Adeboye stated firmly. “I’m only telling you what God told me.”

The statement has since stirred conversations online, with many interpreting it as a lesson in spiritual obedience, loyalty, and the cost of divine assignments.
