How It Happened: Insider Explains Events Leading to 22-Year-Old’s Fatal Fall at Cocoa House

The Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, has laid to rest a 22-year-old man who tragically lost his life after falling from one of the upper floors of the iconic 26-storey Cocoa House in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The deceased, a promising graduate of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), was undergoing cybersecurity training in the building when the fatal incident occurred.
Sources told Tribune Online that the young man lived with his mother in the Apata area of Ibadan, while his father is based in the United States. Friends and family described him as humble and respectful, despite his privileged upbringing.
“He had a car gifted by his parents, but you’d never know it from the way he carried himself,” one source close to the family shared. “He was down-to-earth and focused on his future.”
The aftermath of the incident has raised troubling questions. A family source claimed the training company failed to immediately inform the boy’s mother of the tragedy. “It wasn’t even the company that called her. A random person picked up his phone and broke the news,” the source alleged.
Eyewitnesses say the scene was quickly sealed off. Reporters from 32 FM, a radio station housed in Cocoa House, were reportedly prevented from taking photographs. “They covered his body immediately. People say his remains were badly mangled,” a witness recounted somberly.
The grieving family is said to be exploring legal action against the training firm, accusing it of negligence, both in safety protocols and in the chaotic way the aftermath was handled.
As tributes continue to pour in for the young man, his sudden death serves as a harsh reminder of the need for better safety standards and accountability in Nigeria’s growing tech training sector.
