Ibrahim Chatta Unveils Why He Was Missing from 2025 AMVCA Nominations

Veteran Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Chatta, has addressed ongoing speculations surrounding his absence from the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations, clarifying that his non-inclusion had nothing to do with a snub from the organizers.
Speaking on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast hosted by skit maker IsBae U, Chatta revealed that he did not submit any film for consideration this year, and therefore did not expect to be nominated.
“I am not interested in the AMVCA. Why should I be praying for something that I am not interested in?” he said. “Whenever I am interested to go for the AMVCA, I will make a film and submit the film so that I can be rated and check if I was worthy of the award.”

Chatta’s remarks come after his emotional reaction to last year’s nominations sparked conversations online, with many fans feeling he was unjustly overlooked. However, in this recent interview, the actor took a more composed tone, insisting his absence was a matter of personal choice, not industry neglect.
Known for his powerful performances in Yoruba-language films, Chatta also reflected on how his reclusive lifestyle may have contributed to his being overlooked by mainstream events. “I am not a very social person, so maybe they think if they give me [an award], I won’t show up,” he said.
Despite his limited participation in high-profile ceremonies, the actor noted that he has received numerous accolades over the years. “Do you know how many awards I have? Nelson Mandela award, Pink Award from Wole Soyinka, I have one from Odunlade Adekola and many others,” he said.
