“It Was All for Clout” – Speed Darlington Explains Shocking Underage Sex Claims
Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has sparked outrage, and now backtracked, after a disturbing video surfaced in which he appeared to boast about a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old virgin.
The clip, which spread rapidly across social media, featured the controversial artist describing the alleged incident in graphic detail, leading to widespread condemnation and demands for an investigation.
But in a sudden reversal, Darlington took to Instagram on Wednesday with an apology, sort of.
“I’m an artist. I need controversy to eat,” he said in a follow-up video. “If you’re not trending, you’re not getting booked. Simple!”
Claiming the entire story was fabricated to promote his new single, he added: “I needed f#ck content to push my song. That’s all I was doing. If you’re offended, fine, apologies.”

The damage, however, may already be done. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have both taken notice of the original video, which was recorded in Igbo.
While Darlington insists it was all a stunt, critics aren’t buying it, and the backlash shows no signs of slowing down.
