Keyamo Orders Probe into Air Peace–Oshiomhole Airport Clash

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed relevant aviation agencies to launch a full investigation into the recent face-off between Air Peace and Senator Adams Oshiomhole at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport.
The directive, issued on Friday, June 13, follows a heated public exchange between the airline and the former Edo State governor over a disputed incident that occurred on Wednesday, June 11.
According to reports and viral videos, Senator Oshiomhole was seen confronting airport officials and later sitting in protest at Zulu Hall, Terminal 1, after allegedly missing a scheduled Air Peace flight. The lawmaker accused the airline of exploiting passengers by asking them to pay additional fees, despite having checked in online.
Air Peace, however, swiftly denied the claims, describing Oshiomhole’s version of events as “deliberate falsehood.” The airline stated that no such charges were levied and clarified that the senator had arrived after the check-in deadline had elapsed.
Amid the growing tension, Keyamo confirmed he had spoken with both parties and urged calm.
“In the wake of the incident at the Lagos Airport last Wednesday involving Air Peace Airline and His Excellency, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, I have been in direct contact with both parties since that morning,” the minister disclosed in a statement.
He appealed to both sides to stop the public back-and-forth and emphasized the need for aviation authorities to investigate thoroughly and objectively.
“I am further directing the relevant aviation agencies to thoroughly look into the issue, collect all available evidence and revert to my office so we can deal with the issue in such a way as to guide future conduct in similar situations.”
Keyamo also warned against premature judgments, stressing the importance of due process and fair hearing.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with opinions divided between sympathizers of the senator and those supporting the airline’s stance. The aviation ministry’s investigation is expected to bring clarity to the incident and potentially lead to revised protocols around passenger conduct and airline accountability.
