Man Crushed After Wife Declares She’s Single in Viral Egungun Interview

A Nigerian man has voiced his heartbreak on social media after a viral street interview video surfaced showing his wife boldly declaring herself single, despite their marriage and shared child.

The now-viral clip, posted by popular content creator Egungun of Lagos, features a young woman confidently stating that she is single and open to meeting a “kind, generous, and fine” man. In the video, she claims to be 22 years old and says she’s just “chilling” after being in a series of relationships.

However, shortly after the video gained traction, a man identified as her husband took to X (formerly Twitter) under the handle @ChuksEricE to counter her claim. According to him, the woman is not only his wife but also the mother of his 4-year-old daughter.

“Three days ago, I was just receiving messages from my friends all over, telling me they saw my wife on Egungun’s page, where she said she is a nurse and single,” he wrote. “Meanwhile, we have been married since 2022, and she has a 4-year-old daughter for me.”

The man, who resides in Asaba, Delta State, further revealed that his wife currently lives in Lagos. He alleged that her family has refused to return his dowry, despite the breakdown in their marriage.

“I live in Asaba and she is living in Lagos. Her parents have refused to return my dowry, and this has been eating me up. I have all the evidence you need,” he stated.

The post quickly drew widespread reactions, sparking a mix of outrage, sympathy, and humor across social media.

Mixed Reactions Online

While some sympathized with the heartbroken husband, others noted that the couple may already be separated, citing their living arrangement and the husband’s mention of dowry repayment.

@lifeinsolace commented, “They are separated. He lives in Asaba, and she lives in Lagos. Oga, she don leave you go oo. Na only you still dey that marriage.”

Another user, @OmotayoSolomon10, added, “Since he is already requesting for dowry repayment, it means they are no longer together. Hence the lady is single.”

Some took issue with the woman’s claim of being 22, suggesting that the age might have been falsified for the interview.
