Man Shares Update on How His Phone Wallpaper Helped Him Escape Police Harassment

A Nigerian man has sparked online buzz after sharing an unusual but clever hack that reportedly helped him avoid harassment by security officers.

The man, who tweets under the handle @miwa_joker, narrated how he narrowly escaped the growing trend of police and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) officials stopping young people and checking their phones for “suspicious” content.

In his post, he explained that during one such encounter, officers collected his phone and were about to check through it, a practice that many have condemned as an infringement of privacy. However, the officers returned his phone almost immediately after noticing his wallpaper — a photo of a senior police officer, identified as the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO).

“Make I give una this update,” he wrote. “I was lucky enough to scale through the police and RRS habit of harassing people and checking people’s phone because they saw who was on my wallpaper. As soon as they took the phone, they saw who was there and returned it immediately.”

The revelation has stirred conversation on social media, with many Nigerians reacting with humor and irony, while others are highlighting it as a reflection of deeper issues surrounding profiling, abuse of power, and unlawful phone searches by some security operatives.
