Netflix has raised its subscription prices in Nigeria for the third time since 2024, with the latest hike marking the platform’s first price adjustment of 2025. The Premium Plan now costs ₦8,500 per month, up from ₦7,000, a 21.43% increase.

Other subscription plans were not left out. The Standard Plan jumped from ₦5,500 to ₦6,500 (an 18.18% rise), while the Basic Plan moved from ₦3,500 to ₦4,000 (a 14.29% hike). The Mobile Plan saw the smallest increase, climbing from ₦2,200 to ₦2,500 (13.64%).

According to Netflix, the price review aligns with its broader global pricing strategy tied to platform improvements and content investment. In a note to investors, the company stated:

“As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements.”

While the company did not explicitly mention inflation in this update, it acknowledged on its website that local economic conditions—such as taxes and inflation, play a role in price changes.

This development mirrors similar moves by other digital and entertainment platforms in Nigeria, including Google, DSTV, GOtv, and Microsoft, all of whom have recently adjusted their rates in response to rising inflation and a weakening naira.

Many Nigerian subscribers have taken to social media to express concern over the growing cost of access to global streaming platforms, prompting conversations about affordability in a tightening economy.
