Nollywood Film Strikes a Nerve with Verydarkman: Here’s Why

Controversial activist and social media personality, Verydarkman, has expressed his disapproval over a Nollywood movie inspired by his life, citing that he was neither informed nor involved in the storytelling process.

The movie, which recently began circulating online, features veteran actor Gentle Jack portraying a character modeled after Verydarkman—complete with similar physical features and mannerisms. The poster alone stirred significant buzz, drawing attention for its striking resemblance to the outspoken activist.

However, what seemed like a compliment quickly turned sour. Taking to his Instagram page, Verydarkman shared his reaction, revealing deep irritation at how the filmmakers went about creating the story.

“I have a problem with it, to be very honest. I’m not even happy with it,” he said. “Baba Gentle Jack for write to me say, ‘VDM, what is your story? I want to play your story.’”

Although he admitted to having no issue with someone turning his life into a film, his major concern was the lack of consultation.

In a caption accompanying his video post, he wrote:

“By now I am sure most of you have seen the movie Nollywood did where legendary Gentle Jack play me (Verydarkman). Honestly, I am not happy about the movie. It cr!nged me. I was so irrrtdd even watching it. They got the right character and we do look alike, but the story was just !rrrt@tnng.”

Verydarkman’s frustration seems to stem not only from the movie’s content but from a larger concern about creative integrity and respect. Many of his followers have weighed in, with some agreeing that it’s only fair for content creators to involve the real-life subjects of their work—especially when the portrayal is that direct.
