Outrage as Nigerian Prophet Introduces ‘Spiritual ATM Card’ for $20

A Nigerian cleric, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto-Fufeyin, has stirred controversy after unveiling a so-called “spiritual ATM card,” which he claims carries divine powers—and is reportedly being sold for $20.
A video of the development, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, shows the popular preacher addressing his congregation while holding the card. In the clip, Prophet Fufeyin likens the card to a bank-issued ATM card, stating that it grants users access to “spiritual blessings” and “financial breakthroughs.”
“This card is not ordinary,” the prophet is heard saying. “Just like your ATM card gives you access to your money, this one gives you access to your miracle.”
The footage, which appears to have been recorded during a church service, shows the crowd listening intently as he speaks. A display in the background reportedly shows the card’s selling price as $20, further fuelling public backlash.
Online, the reactions have been swift and divided. While some followers defend the prophet, calling the card a “point of contact” for faith, others have condemned the practice as exploitative and misleading.
“This is nothing but spiritual fraud,” one user wrote. “How can anyone commercialize faith this way?”
Another comment read: “Christianity in Nigeria is turning into a comedy show. What happened to prayer and sincerity?”

As of press time, Prophet Fufeyin has not officially responded to the criticism. Known for his flamboyant style and unconventional practices, he has often found himself at the centre of public debates on the monetization of religion in Nigeria.
This latest episode adds to a growing list of controversial religious products and practices in the country, reigniting calls for stricter oversight of faith-based organizations and their financial dealings.
