PDP Unity Crumbles as Wike Calls Out Makinde, Mbah for Political Betrayal

With just hours to the crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a political earthquake has rocked the party’s fragile peace efforts as FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, tears up all previously reached reconciliation deals. Wike, known for never mincing words, says he has had enough, and is now fully back in the ring.
In a hard-hitting statement released on Sunday and titled “PDP Crisis: My Position”, Wike accused some PDP governors, especially Oyo State’s Seyi Makinde and Enugu’s Peter Mbah, of orchestrating calculated breaches of peace agreements. The Minister claims that the plot to sideline the party’s legitimate National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, is just one of many underhanded moves being deployed to destabilize the party and hijack its structure.
“I told Makinde to his face—he’s the architect of this mess,” Wike revealed, pointing fingers at Makinde’s role in the party’s mounting internal crisis. According to him, PDP’s woes are rooted in dishonesty and the blatant disregard for collective decisions.
Wike detailed several meetings, including those held in Lagos and Abuja, where top stakeholders like Bukola Saraki, Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, and others agreed on a path forward. Among the resolutions reached were the recognition of Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary (backed by a Supreme Court judgment), withdrawal of all PDP-related court cases in Rivers State, and immediate discontinuation of the emergency rule suit. A committee headed by Saraki was even set up to handle lingering issues.
But the former Rivers Governor says the peace deal was dead on arrival.
“Even before Saraki’s committee could swing into action, Makinde and his allies were already sabotaging the process,” he alleged. Wike accused the Oyo governor of working with Enugu’s Peter Mbah to push Ude Okoye as National Secretary—a direct violation of their agreement.
As if that wasn’t enough, Wike says some officials at the PDP national secretariat, reportedly influenced by Makinde, moved to install the Deputy National Secretary as acting National Secretary and even issued a NEC meeting notice without the legal sign-off of Senator Anyanwu. This, he said, triggered chaos and led to INEC’s refusal to attend a key zonal congress in Jos, citing the letter was not signed by the court-recognized official.
“The PDP is bleeding because trust has collapsed,” Wike fumed. “I’ve given my all to this party since 1998. I helped some of these governors win their elections and have never asked for anything in return. Yet, they betray every agreement we make.”
He warned that the manipulated rejection of a properly signed PDP governorship nomination letter for Anambra, and other moves to delegitimize authentic documents, are reckless actions that could destroy the party’s credibility nationwide.
Disappointed but defiant, Wike declared: “I am done playing along. I’m pulling out of all agreements. From now on, I will fight until justice is served.”
