Peter Obi Breaks Silence on 2027 Political Talks

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to growing speculation about a possible political alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The rumour mill has been buzzing with claims that Atiku may offer Obi the position of running mate under a one-term presidency deal, aimed at consolidating opposition forces. However, during a recent appearance in Kubwa, Abuja, Obi offered a cautious response.
Obi was in Kubwa to support a community project initiated by the Anglican Church, where he donated funds towards the construction of a school and hospital. When pressed by journalists on the possibility of teaming up with Atiku again, Obi chose his words carefully.
“You can make of the report what you want. But I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” he said.
Though he did not directly confirm or deny the alliance talks, his statement signals a continued commitment to issues that defined his 2023 campaign—transparency, equity, and service to the people.
Political analysts see this as Obi’s attempt to remain focused on the bigger picture of national reform, even as realignments begin to take shape ahead of the next election cycle.
The possibility of an Obi-Atiku ticket is expected to remain a topic of debate, especially within opposition camps exploring viable strategies to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
