Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is actively stoking division within opposition ranks, particularly by fueling the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party.

During an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Monday, Obi claimed that the party’s internal disputes are not the result of natural disagreements but are being deliberately engineered by powerful forces in government circles.

“In today’s Nigeria, propaganda and deceit are tools of governance,” he said. “What we’re witnessing in the Labour Party is not organic. It’s a calculated effort to destabilise opposition voices.”

Obi condemned what he described as deliberate attempts to sow confusion and disharmony, pointing to escalating public disputes and inflammatory rhetoric among party members as evidence. He argued that these divisions are often manufactured and amplified by those seeking to weaken any credible challenge to the current administration.

“They create falsehoods and promote discord—even within families,” he lamented. “Anyone who stands by the truth becomes a target. But there are still people who won’t bend.”

Referencing recent instances where some Labour Party figures have insulted state governors, including calling them demeaning names like “dwarf,” Obi described such behaviour as orchestrated chaos, not genuine political debate.

“When party leaders resort to personal attacks on sitting governors, it reflects how far manipulation has taken hold. This isn’t about ideology—it’s sabotage,” he stressed.

The Labour Party has been embroiled in a protracted leadership dispute, marked by factional struggles and legal battles. Although the party’s official leadership insists there is unity, several loyalists and observers have raised concerns about possible interference by political enemies.

Reaffirming his position, Obi maintained that he remains committed to principled leadership and urged Nigerians not to fall for false narratives being pushed by vested interests.

“They aim to wear you down through lies and confusion,” he warned. “But the truth will always prevail—no matter how long it takes.”
