The Rivers State Police Command has launched an official investigation following the arrest of a man accused of physically assaulting three women inside a popular nightclub in Port Harcourt. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has sparked public outrage after a disturbing video surfaced online showing the aftermath of the attack.

According to eyewitness accounts and viral footage shared on social media, the three women were celebrating a friend’s birthday at the club when a male patron confronted them, accusing them of secretly filming him. The situation quickly escalated into violence.

One of the victims was seen bleeding profusely from the head, while another appeared in the video with a missing front tooth, reportedly caused by a forceful punch. A third woman claimed she was pushed down the stairs, stripped naked, and beaten severely by the man and individuals believed to be part of his entourage.

Reacting to the widespread outrage, the police swiftly intervened. The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed in a statement that the suspect was arrested on Saturday, June 14, and released the following day, Sunday, June 15, pending further investigation.

She noted that both parties — the victims and the accused — met with the Rivers State Commissioner of Police for an initial interview. “We are committed to ensuring justice is served, and a full investigation is already underway to determine the facts and ensure accountability,” Iringe-Koko stated.

The incident has drawn strong reactions from civil rights groups and women’s advocacy organizations, who have called for a transparent and thorough probe, demanding that the suspect face appropriate legal consequences if found guilty.

Meanwhile, the victims have appealed for protection and justice, saying the assault left them traumatized and physically injured. They also denied the suspect’s claim of being filmed, asserting that they were only capturing moments from their birthday celebration when they were suddenly attacked.

The Rivers State Police Command has assured the public that justice will not be compromised and urged witnesses or anyone with additional evidence to come forward.

The investigation continues.
