Queen Atang Explains Move That Triggered Marriage Speculation

Reality TV star and ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Queen Mercy Atang, has finally addressed the rumours surrounding her marriage to David Oyekanmi, following her unexpected decision to unfollow him on Instagram and delete their wedding photos.
The couple, who tied the knot in March 2024, had become social media sweethearts—until fans noticed in October 2024 that Queen no longer followed her husband online and had wiped all wedding-related content from her page.
The move instantly sparked speculation of marital troubles, with many users questioning the stability of their union.
However, in a recent interview, Queen set the record straight. According to her, the decision was not driven by a falling out or disagreement with her husband, but rather by a deliberate attempt to protect her marriage from social media scrutiny.
“I was just trying to take my relationship off social media,” she explained.
“Because my husband’s account is out there, a lot of girls feel the need to slide into his DM to say positive and negative things.”

Queen said she was inspired by other celebrities who maintain a low profile when it comes to their spouses, choosing privacy over public display. She admitted that the sudden move, though well-intentioned, unintentionally triggered speculation that things had gone sour.
“People started reading meanings into it. I didn’t expect it to be blown out of proportion,” she added.
Following the online frenzy and wave of reactions, Queen Mercy Atang has since restored her wedding photos and reinstated her husband’s name in her Instagram bio, putting the rumours to rest.
