Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste Burna Boy, also known as Big 7, has unleashed a fiery response on social media following backlash over his offer to perform a free concert in Burkina Faso.

The artist had earlier announced plans to stage a no-cost performance in the West African nation, a gesture that was initially met with wide public praise. However, reports soon surfaced suggesting that the President of Burkina Faso declined the offer, a move that appears to have triggered a sharp reaction from the musician.

Taking to his Instagram story, Burna Boy addressed the controversy in an emotionally charged statement, calling out those who criticized him.

“I said I wanted to do a free show in Burkina Faso and I got a lot of positivity, but at the same time, surprisingly, some morons said a lot of unbelievably negative shit that had me in shock,” the post read.

He continued by questioning the credibility and significance of his critics, writing:

“I’m sorry but YOU are not qualified to even speak my name if your only contribution to this world is typing dumb comments or talking into your cheap ring light and phone.”

The statement went further to defend his pan-African identity and commitment to the continent:

“How can you tell me what to do for any part of my home, AFRICA, when nobody in the history of your family tree has done anything significant or even at all for any part of Africa or even planet Earth as a whole?”

Burna Boy concluded his rant by emphasizing that his philanthropic efforts are self-funded and not driven by any personal gain:

“I have nothing to gain from anybody and I don’t owe anyone anything but that never stopped me from doing the great work I do. My integrity is unquestionable. Therefore, burn in hell if you said anything negative.”

While there has been no official statement from the Burkinabe government confirming or denying the rejection, the online backlash and subsequent clapback from Burna Boy have set social media abuzz, with fans divided over his tone and approach.
