The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has revealed that the full enforcement of the ban on sachet alcoholic drinks will commence on December 31, 2025.

This was made known by Kenneth Azikiwe, the Director of NAFDAC’s FCT Directorate, during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday. He clarified that although a temporary ministerial lifting of the ban is currently in place, it is not permanent and is only intended to allow for a smoother transition.

“There is a ministerial lifting on the ban of sachet alcohol, but it is only temporary and will be reviewed by December 31, 2025. After this date, full enforcement of the ban will begin,” Azikiwe stated.

According to him, the extension was granted to give manufacturers and regulatory bodies enough time to collaborate and structure the implementation process effectively. He also warned the public against misinformation claiming the ban had been reversed.

“The minister granted this temporary relief to give manufacturers and regulators time to collaborate and ensure a more structured and effective implementation of the ban,” he reiterated.

Azikiwe further disclosed that NAFDAC has intensified public awareness campaigns and sensitized distributors across the country about responsible alcohol distribution, including the regulation that alcohol must not be sold to persons under 18.

The agency also acknowledged the Distillers and Beverages Association of Nigeria for their role in supporting the public sensitization efforts.
