A storm of outrage has erupted online as Nigerians demand the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) take swift action against former militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo—popularly known as Tompolo—after a video surfaced showing him allegedly involved in naira abuse.

The clip, which has gone viral on social media, captures Tompolo dancing at his 54th birthday celebration while a man showers him with ₦1,000 notes. The video, shared on X.com by user Harrison A (@harreceipts), was captioned: “EFCC, see Tompolo and the Naira o.”

The incident has sparked renewed calls for the EFCC to prove that no one is above the law. Critics argue that the agency has selectively enforced its crackdown on naira abuse, especially when influential figures are involved.

Nigerians quickly drew comparisons to previous arrests and convictions. In April 2024, controversial internet personality Bobrisky was jailed for six months for a similar offence. Not long after, socialite E-Money was also arrested. Celebrities like Iyabo Ojo, Ayo Makun (AY), and sons of billionaire Razaq Okoya have all faced EFCC questioning in recent months over currency abuse.

Yet, many believe Tompolo might escape such scrutiny.

“The eagle’s eye is blind when it comes to their own,” one user, @MeekRapheal, posted. Another, @tonyajah, mocked the commission, writing, “They’ll say he wasn’t the one spraying the money.”

On Facebook, some comments were even more direct. “They arrested E-Money because his leg touched the naira. Now Tompolo is literally dancing on it—let’s see if EFCC has the courage,” wrote Esther Mabiaku.

Still, a few defended Tompolo, saying he neither sprayed the money nor encouraged it. “How is it Tompolo’s fault that someone else sprayed money while he danced?” asked @AD_Oluwaseun001.

Despite growing public pressure, the EFCC has yet to issue a statement.
