See What Akwa Ibom Governor Said After Kenneth Okonkwo Called Him a ‘Political Transgender’

The war of words between Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has taken a dramatic turn.

In a fiery appearance on Arise TV, Okonkwo criticized Governor Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the governor as a “political transgender” — a controversial term he used to imply inconsistency and weakness in leadership.

While expressing disappointment over Eno’s reason for joining the APC, Okonkwo said, “Can you imagine a whole governor coming out to say, ‘I can’t fight like Wike ooo, I want a smooth sail in 2027. I still love PDP.’ That is transgenderic!” He went on to say the governor was behaving like a man but lacked the courage expected of one, accusing him of riding on the efforts of his predecessor without putting up a fight of his own.

Okonkwo, known for his breakout role in Living in Bondage and a brief stint in Labour Party politics, further mocked the governor’s political stance, likening him to someone embarrassed on the national stage. He concluded his takedown by referring to Eno as “a political transgender” and compared him to transgender individuals he’d worked with in Nollywood — calling them bold and brave — while implying the governor lacked those traits.

But Governor Eno didn’t let the remarks slide.

Though he did not name Okonkwo directly in his response, the governor’s words during a recent state function left little doubt about whom he was referring to. “People that are talking, even those who are not from Akwa Ibom… They have tried everything. Tried acting, failed. Tried politics, ran away. Tried law, never moved a motion. They are still living in bondage,” he said, a clear jab at Okonkwo’s film and political career.

The governor added, “He should go to his state and fight. He is an attempted politician, an attempted lawyer, and an attempted actor. Don’t listen to such people.”

The spat has stirred reactions across social media, with many weighing in on both the harsh language used and the deeper political implications of the governor’s defection.
