See What Landed Nigerian Caregiver in UK Prison — A Kiss That Crossed the Line

A Nigerian man working as a caregiver in the United Kingdom has reportedly been sentenced to prison after kissing a female patient under his care,  a move many have described as deeply unprofessional and ethically inappropriate.

Identified only as Adewale, the man was said to have arrived in the UK last year and secured employment as a hospital caregiver. According to a video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Adewale was assigned to care for a female patient reportedly in severe pain.

In a misguided attempt to offer comfort, Adewale allegedly kissed the woman. She did not immediately react, reportedly due to her medical condition. However, the following day, when Adewale was again assigned to her, he repeated the same action — prompting the patient to file a report with hospital authorities.

Surveillance footage from the hospital confirmed the inappropriate act, leading to Adewale’s immediate suspension. After an internal review and court proceedings, he was found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced to prison. His conviction has also jeopardized his career and residency in the UK, with many suggesting he may eventually be deported.

A man who narrated the story online said:

“One of our brothers, Adewale, has been sentenced to prison for committing an avoidable crime. He was trying to show sympathy in a misguided way, but it crossed a professional line. Now, he’s in jail, leaving behind a wife and children in this country.”

The incident has sparked a flurry of online reactions, with Nigerians expressing anger, disappointment, and even mockery:

@nbachaselee_: “You leave peck go dey kiss 😭😂 ADEWALE have now been waled to prison.”

@MascotOgbe: “That’s the height of unprofessionalism.”

@FowobiofLagos: “The woman suppose slap am first.”

@Micdona13: “He don enter be that. As he don enter prison, his career in UK don finish.”

@cyrilemeka: “No healthcare professional, even in Nigeria, kisses a patient just to sympathize.”

@Jesse__Nation: “What you get when you don’t have self-control.”

@YahBuchi: “This is what happens when you forget where you come from. He should’ve been thinking about investing back home.”

As conversations about professional boundaries and ethics continue, many online users are also using the case as a warning to other Nigerian immigrants: empathy must never override professionalism, especially in environments governed by strict rules and accountability.
