See What Rivers APC Told Governor Fubara About Defecting to Their Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has firmly stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, currently at the center of political tensions in the state, will not find automatic redemption by defecting to the ruling party.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, June 10, state APC chairman, Sir Tony Okocha, made it clear that Fubara’s alleged political misdeeds will not be overlooked simply because he switches party allegiance.

“If Fubara decides to join the APC, it has nothing to do with the state of emergency in Rivers State,” Okocha declared. “His sins cannot be forgiven because he came to our party. APC is not a dumping ground for political sinners.”

Okocha’s comments come amid speculations following Fubara’s Sallah homage visit to President Bola Tinubu, a move many viewed as a political olive branch. However, the APC chieftain insists no reconciliation talks are on the table, and Fubara has not made any formal attempt to join the party through appropriate channels.

“He has not spoken to me,” Okocha said. “He will enter the party through the door, not the window. Nobody in his ward has informed us of any such move.”

He further stressed that political parties are not sanctuaries for embattled figures looking to escape accountability. “It would make APC a dumping ground for people who commit misdemeanors and believe we’ll reconcile. No, it doesn’t work that way,” he added.

When asked whether the APC was worried about Fubara’s visit to the President, Okocha dismissed any concerns, noting that the President has the liberty to receive anyone. “How can I be worried that somebody visited my President?” he asked rhetorically. “It’s the season of Sallah. Other politicians also paid him visits.”

Okocha concluded by denying any ongoing reconciliatory efforts by Governor Fubara, countering public speculation. “I’m not a prophet of doom, but I am not aware of any reconciliation moves. None whatsoever. Not even the kind Mr. President suggested,” he said.

The political drama in Rivers State continues to unfold, with both local and national implications hanging in the balance.
