See What Trump Just Told Elon Musk Over His Support for Democrats

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk, cautioning him against financially backing Democratic candidates, particularly those opposing the Republican-backed budget bill.

Speaking in a phone interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump said Musk would face “very serious consequences” if he decides to fund Democratic challengers running against Republicans who supported the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump said, though he declined to elaborate on the nature of the consequences.

The remarks follow a public spat between the president and the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, which escalated earlier this week after Musk criticized the GOP-led spending bill and took jabs at Trump via posts on X (formerly Twitter), including one referencing the president’s past associations with convicted s£x offender Jeffrey Epstein — a post Musk later deleted.

Trump dismissed the post as “old news,” adding, “Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it.”

When asked whether he intends to mend his strained relationship with Musk, Trump was emphatic: “No.”

“I would assume so, yeah,” he added when asked if their relationship was officially over. “I’m too busy doing other things. I have no intention of speaking to him.”

The fallout deepened after Trump publicly expressed disappointment over Musk’s criticism of the budget bill, claiming, “I’ve helped Elon a lot.”

Musk, in response, launched a series of critical posts, including calls for Trump’s impeachment and economic warnings about the administration’s tariff strategy.

In a Truth Social post, Trump countered:

“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”

When asked Saturday whether he had followed through on the idea of cutting Musk’s federal contracts — many of which are tied to NASA and national security — Trump said:

“I’d be allowed to do that, but I haven’t given it any thought.”

Trump also rejected the idea that Musk’s opposition would derail the budget bill’s passage, saying he remains “very confident” it will pass the Senate before July 4.

“The Republican Party has never been united like this before. It’s actually more so than it was three days ago,” he claimed.

Amid calls from allies like Steve Bannon to investigate Musk’s business dealings and immigration practices, Trump said it’s not something currently on his agenda:

“It’s not something that’s on top of my mind right now.”

The clash marks a rare public falling-out between two of the most influential figures in American business and politics, just months before the 2026 midterm election cycle begins to heat up.
