Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has publicly slammed fellow artist Speed Darlington in a fiery Instagram video posted on Friday. Portable’s outburst follows Speed Darlington’s alleged confession in a viral Instagram Live video, where he claimed to have engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

Portable did not hold back, contrasting Darlington’s behavior with the common perception of Igbo men as providers and caretakers for women. He accused Darlington of taking advantage of a minor and insisted that he should face imprisonment.

“This man called Speed Darling, aka Akpi is a disgrace to Igbo men. He is the first Igbo man who is lazy. An Igbo man would pay before sleeping with you. You will eat chicken, fish, and sleep well…Igbo men take care of women. They have money,” Portable stated emphatically.

Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, faced intense backlash after his initial video. In it, he recounted an alleged encounter with a 15-year-old at a hotel, even mentioning blood-stained sheets and paying hotel staff to replace them. This confession, delivered in Igbo, sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning his actions as rape and demanding legal action.

In an attempt to quell the outrage, Darlington later claimed in a subsequent video that his confession was merely a publicity stunt to promote his new song, calling it a “prank” or “cruise” meant to stir controversy for attention.

While he expressed remorse to his followers, he ignited further anger with a controversial remark, stating that if he had known the age 15 would cause such a reaction, he would have claimed the girl was 12 instead. He also questioned if the backlash would have occurred if the incident happened in Northern Nigeria, hinting at cultural differences in marriage customs.

Authorities have taken notice. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have both launched investigations into the matter. The DSVA condemned the alleged act as disturbing and referred the case to NAPTIP due to jurisdictional limitations, as Darlington did not specify the location of the alleged incident.

NAPTIP has called Darlington in for questioning at their headquarters in Abuja on May 30, 2025, cautioning that non-compliance could lead to additional legal consequences.
