Solomon Buchi Slams BET Awards Over Glorilla’s Gospel Win: “It’s a Shame”

Writer and social critic Solomon Buchi has publicly criticized the organizers of the BET Awards for naming American rapper Glorilla as Best Gospel Artist, a decision that has sparked widespread debate.

During a video shared on social media, Buchi expressed disbelief and disappointment over what he described as a “misplaced recognition.” He argued that Glorilla, widely known for her explicit lyrics and provocative image, should not have been considered for a gospel music category, even if she had collaborated with a gospel artist.

“So, naked, profane-singing, seductively dressed pop stars are now winning gospel awards?” Buchi said in the video. “Shame on all involved in making this happen. The gospel industry is a scam, it became one ever since it stopped being about ministry.”

Glorilla’s win, which took place during last weekend’s BET Awards, has ignited strong reactions online. While some defended the nomination on the grounds of artistic collaboration and crossover appeal, others echoed Buchi’s concerns about the blurred lines between faith-based music and mainstream entertainment.

Buchi concluded his remarks by urging gospel award platforms to preserve the sanctity of gospel music and remain true to its spiritual roots.

The BET Awards have yet to officially respond to the criticism.
