Speed Darlington’s Crisis Deepens as Ex-Lawyer Shares Message Loaded with Meaning

Stan Alieke, the former lawyer to controversial musician Speed Darlington, has weighed in, albeit subtly on the public backlash trailing the singer’s recent disturbing revelation.

The uproar began after Speed Darlington, known for his unfiltered antics, sparked nationwide outrage with a viral video in which he described an alleged intimate encounter with a minor. While he later claimed the story was fabricated to promote a new song, the backlash has been unrelenting, with many Nigerians calling for his arrest and prosecution.

Amid the storm, Stan Alieke took to social media to share a pair of cryptic African proverbs, widely interpreted as a veiled jab at his former client.

“Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad,” he wrote.
“The fly that does not listen to advice will follow the corpse to the grave.”

The post has since fueled fresh discussions, with social media users reacting to both the message and the ongoing controversy.

One commenter wrote,

“Him lawyer don taya… since wey this man meet Akpi, he never get peace.”

Another added,

“Akpi is the weapon fashioned against Speed Darlington.”

The backlash against Speed Darlington has also reignited debates about selective justice in Nigeria. A few voices pointed out the inconsistency in applying child protection laws across regions, arguing that the law must be uniformly enforced regardless of cultural or religious differences.

Despite his apology and claims that the video was merely a publicity stunt, public calls for investigations have intensified. Agencies such as the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and NAPTIP have reportedly taken interest in the matter.
