“Teaching Isn’t Ordinary”: Verydarkman Slams Nigerians Mocking His Mother’s Profession

Popular online activist, Verydarkman, has fired back at critics who ridiculed his mother for being a schoolteacher, labeling the profession as “ordinary.”

The social commentator recently shared a video addressing the backlash he received after accompanying his mother to the bank over concerns about unexplained deductions from her salary.

Following the visit, several online trolls mocked him for publicly giving to others while his own mother still works as a teacher. Some questioned why he hadn’t set up a business for her, implying that teaching held little value.

In a passionate response, Verydarkman defended his mother and the teaching profession, blaming societal disregard for educators on the poor welfare structures in Nigeria.

Watch the video:

“I see people saying, ‘You dey do giveaway but your mama na ordinary teacher,’” he said. “But I don’t blame you — it’s the failed system. Teachers deserve top-tier welfare. In a better country, teaching would be one of the highest-paying jobs.”

He stressed that teaching, far from being “ordinary,” is a vital profession that deserves respect and better recognition.
