Tinubu is Burying Nigeria—Sowore Declares Democracy Dead, Predicts Nigerians Will Beg for Buhari’s Return!

Human rights activist and former presidential hopeful, Omoyele Sowore, has sparked outrage with his explosive remarks labeling Nigeria’s democracy as “dead” and alleging that the outcome of the 2027 general elections has already been predetermined.
In a bold interview with The Vanguard, Sowore tore into President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that it is rapidly plunging the country deeper into chaos. He warned that Nigerians might soon regret voting Tinubu in and even wish for the return of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I’ve said it long before the 2023 elections: putting Bola Tinubu in power was a colossal error,” Sowore stated. “Under Buhari, Nigeria suffered. Under Tinubu, the country is being buried alive. He has wrecked the economy, destroyed institutions, and crippled democracy.”
As Democracy Day approaches, Sowore said Nigerians have no reason to celebrate. According to him, the country is enduring a hollow version of democracy where freedoms have vanished and trust in leadership has eroded.
“There’s no free speech, no credible elections, and no real choices anymore,” he said. “It’s a pretend democracy. People are so disillusioned, they’re starting to glorify past dictators just to voice their despair.”
Sowore also slammed a proposed law mandating compulsory voting, branding it authoritarian and absurd. “Democracy is about choice. Forcing people to vote in a broken system is not participation, it’s manipulation,” he argued. “They’re not trying to engage citizens; they’re trying to fabricate legitimacy through fear.”
Addressing perceptions of his activism as extreme, Sowore countered, “I’m not radical enough. History proves that radical voices have always driven change. I won’t dilute my message to satisfy critics who don’t grasp what true struggle means.”
On his controversial #RevolutionNow movement, Sowore reaffirmed its relevance, saying real revolutions take time. “It’s not about noise, it’s about consistent messaging. Every major revolution in history took years, and ours will too.”
He also criticized Nigeria’s current opposition, calling them political opportunists. “What we call opposition today is a recycled mix of APC and PDP loyalists. There’s no ideological divide, just a hunger for power and access to state resources.”
When asked whether he’ll contest the presidency in 2027, Sowore gave an indirect but telling response. “I never stopped running, whether it’s in protests, campaigns, or legal battles. But with the current system? The 2027 elections are already fixed. The only way out is mass rebellion against the system, not against democracy itself.”
He emphasized that his only allegiance is to the disenfranchised. “I don’t care about elite coalitions. My alliance is with the 50 million Nigerians who’ve lost faith in elections. That’s the real majority.”
Responding to arguments that Tinubu’s economic reforms, like subsidy removal and currency floating, are steps toward recovery, Sowore was blunt. “There’s no recovery coming. People are being fed lies. The naira keeps sinking, inflation is crushing families, and hardship is the new normal. If this is their road to prosperity, then it’s clearly a road to disaster.”
