Tribal Tensions Erupt as Davido’s Manager Asa Asika Marries Billionaire Yoruba Heiress

Asa Asika, the longtime talent manager of Nigerian music sensation Davido, has sparked intense debate online, not just for marrying into wealth, but for unintentionally igniting tribal commentary that has gripped social media since his wedding.

On May 17, 2025, Asika tied the knot with Leona Adesanya, the daughter of renowned oil mogul Laitan ‘Leno’ Adesanya. While many initially gushed over the wedding photos and celebrated the union, controversy soon emerged from an unexpected angle.

A Facebook post by user Taiye Jiboluwa triggered a heated conversation across digital platforms. In his post, Jiboluwa accused Igbo men, citing Asika as an example, of strategically targeting Yoruba women from powerful and wealthy families.

“These Igbo guys are not just after Yoruba women, they are after the best of them… After losing DJ Cuppy, this Asika set his eyes on another Yoruba lady that came from a super-rich family, Leona Adesanya,” Jiboluwa wrote.

He went on to compare Yoruba openness to such unions with what he described as Jewish billionaire families who preserve wealth and heritage through cautious marital alliances. Jiboluwa’s opinion suggested that while Asika reportedly doesn’t hold a university degree, Leona holds a master’s degree from a top UK university—a dynamic he called “strategic positioning.”

The post quickly gained traction, attracting hundreds of reactions and comments, with some echoing his concerns and others strongly condemning the tribal undertone.

Here are some of the reactions:

@Olu Martins Martin: “All three daughters of Otedola are marked by Igbos. Too bad.”

@Damilola Pedro: “You people are shameless. Some of us don’t care about tribal wars. The elite are mixing and don’t care. It’s poor people fueling tribalism while struggling for power supply. Hustle well so your kids don’t inherit your tribal foolishness.”

@Elekunle Latifa Ifemelunamma Thelma: “This isn’t right sir… Let’s stop this please. We are one Nigeria. I’m Yoruba, getting married to an Igbo man too.”

@Id Chiletam Sunday: “People still pushing tribal war like this? So as long as Nigeria is led by Yoruba, that’s okay with you?”

@Maestro B Nicholas: “Why do you write out of jealousy??”
