Trump Says Elon Musk ‘Lost His Mind,’ Shuts Down Peace Talks as Feud Boils Over

U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed any plans to hold talks with Elon Musk, declaring he has no interest in speaking with the tech billionaire, whom he now claims has “lost his mind.”

Speaking to ABC News on Friday, Trump was blunt when asked about reports suggesting a phone call was being arranged between him and the Tesla CEO: “You mean the man who has lost his mind?” he snapped. When pressed, Trump added, “I’m not particularly interested in speaking with Musk.”

The remarks come amid a growing rift between the two influential figures. Earlier in the day, a White House official had said a call between Trump and Musk was expected later in the evening, but another official quickly refuted the claim, stating that no such conversation was on the agenda.

The fallout appears to have been triggered by Musk’s harsh criticism of Trump’s latest legislative push — the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”. Trump reportedly took offense, leading to a series of public jabs.

Musk escalated the situation further with a post on X (formerly Twitter), accusing Trump of suppressing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and suggesting the President’s name appears in the unsealed files.

“Time to drop the really big bomb: Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk posted.

The standoff has already sent ripples through the stock market. Tesla shares dipped amid the controversy, with analysts citing Musk’s political clashes as a destabilizing factor. In retaliation, Trump has reportedly threatened to revoke billions in federal support to Musk’s companies.

Despite the hostility, investor and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman stepped in late Thursday, urging both men to set aside their differences. “The world needs both of you,” Ackman tweeted. “Find common ground.” Musk replied with a terse but telling: “You’re not wrong.”

Still, President Trump remains unmoved. “It’s going very well, never done better,” he said when asked about the feud. “The numbers are through the roof — the highest polls I’ve ever had.”

As it stands, two of the most powerful men in America are locked in a personal and political standoff , one that shows no sign of cooling anytime soon.
