Verydarkman Slams Pastor David Ibiyeomie Over Threats to Arrest Bloggers

Nigerian activist, Verydarkman, has publicly criticised Pastor David Ibiyeomie for threatening to arrest bloggers and journalists who report on him and his ministry.

The outspoken cleric and founder of Salvation Ministries had earlier issued a warning during a church service, vowing to take legal action against anyone who publishes content about him without his consent. His stern remarks, which were captured in a viral video, triggered widespread conversations online.

In response, Verydarkman did not hold back. Taking to his social media platform, he accused Pastor Ibiyeomie of attempting to intimidate critics by leveraging his influence and using law enforcement as a tool for suppression.

“I know you travel around the world. Have you seen anywhere else where police are used to lock up people for simply talking?” the activist asked in a video. “That means you’re using your influence to oppress. In other countries, police do proper investigations; you can’t just command them because you’re influential.”

Verydarkman went further to argue that influential figures, including some religious leaders, are contributing to systemic issues in the country.

“Even the pastors follow spoil this country, but people no dey understand. Nobody dey fear you. Who you be we go fear? You be human being too.”

The video sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many Nigerians echoing the activist’s sentiments.

Public Reactions:

One user, @Abasiono_Ek, wrote: “This stupidity has entered the church too. As leaders act above the law, so do pastors now. I like that line — ‘To liberate a nation, we have to drop respect.’ It makes sense.”

Another commenter, @TVNDEY, blamed those who idolize religious leaders, saying: “Na people wey dey call them ‘men of God’ I blame. These people hide behind scriptures but their character is worse.”

@olumidebravo3 added: “We have more churches than cinemas, more churches than schools, more churches than hospitals… until we start seeing the fraud, we won’t be free.”

The conversation continues to spark debate about the influence of religious leaders in Nigeria and the thin line between spiritual authority and civic accountability.
