WAEC Apologizes for WASSCE English Paper Delay, Cites Reasons

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued an apology following delays in the administration of the English Language Paper 2 for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In an official press release signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, the examination body acknowledged the challenges faced during the conduct of the 2025 examinations. WAEC explained that while its primary objective of preventing question paper leaks was successfully achieved, this came at the cost of timely examination administration.
“The Council faced considerable challenges in maintaining both the integrity and security of the examination,” the statement read. “While we successfully prevented any leakage of examination materials, this inadvertently affected the smooth and timely conduct of the English Language paper.”
WAEC identified several factors contributing to the delays, including logistical hurdles, security concerns, and sociocultural considerations. The Council emphasized its commitment to addressing these issues, revealing ongoing collaborations with security agencies to prevent similar occurrences in future examinations.
Recognizing the impact on candidates, schools, and parents, WAEC expressed sincere regret for any inconveniences caused. “We appreciate the understanding and support of all stakeholders during this period,” the statement continued, reaffirming WAEC’s dedication to upholding the highest standards in examination conduct.
The press release concluded by restating WAEC’s commitment to academic excellence while balancing examination security with operational efficiency. Education stakeholders have welcomed the transparency but continue to call for improved examination logistics to prevent future disruptions.
The Council has encouraged concerned parties to direct inquiries to its Public Affairs Department as it works to ensure the smooth continuation of the ongoing WASSCE examinations.
