Legendary Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has spoken out with raw emotion and visible frustration over the incessant killings in his home state, Benue. In a video shared on social media, the award-winning artiste expressed heartbreak, anger, and helplessness following the latest massacre in Yelwata, a border community between Benue and Nasarawa States.

2Face described the worsening security situation as a “national emergency”, lamenting how the bloodshed has become far too frequent and disturbingly normalized.

“My heart is heavy. I’m terribly sad and terribly angry. It’s a national emergency what’s going on in my state. I can’t wrap my head around it. It’s like business as usual — we condemn the killings, but this thing needs to stop,” he said.

He condemned the culture of silence and inaction from government authorities, stressing that the crisis is beyond political lines and must now involve every citizen, regardless of class or tribe.

“This has to involve everybody in this country. It’s not child’s play anymore. I don’t even know where to express my sadness, my grief, my anger, my frustration. Every time this happens, we call on the governor, we call on the president… Haba! It’s not funny anymore. This is beyond condemnation — serious action needs to start taking place,” he added.

His outcry follows the brutal attack on Yelwata community on Saturday night, June 14, 2025, where over 200 people — mostly displaced persons — were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen. The attackers, who came in from Nasarawa State, stormed the town in large numbers from multiple directions and unleashed terror till the early hours of Saturday.

Eyewitnesses report that youths and policemen tried to resist the invasion but were overwhelmed. Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), some of whom were sleeping in market stalls, were among the worst-hit victims. At the same time, another coordinated attack was carried out in Daudu, also in Guma Local Government Area, intensifying the trauma.

2Face’s voice joins a growing number of Nigerians demanding urgent government intervention and concrete security reforms in Benue State and other volatile regions.

“It’s becoming ridiculous,” he said. “This is not just about Benue anymore. It is about humanity.”
