Why Simon Guobadia Was Quietly Deported After Months in U.S. Custody

Businessman and ex-husband to reality TV star Porsha Williams, Simon Guobadia, has been deported to Nigeria after spending several months in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.
According to Us Weekly, Guobadia was placed on a flight to Nigeria a few days ago, ending a lengthy legal tussle over his immigration status. His longtime friend and associate, Tai Savet, confirmed the deportation, saying the 61-year-old is “in good spirits” despite the ordeal.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has reportedly scrubbed Guobadia’s name from its system, further confirming his exit. A selfie dated Monday, June 9, also surfaced, showing the businessman smiling after his release.
Guobadia’s immigration troubles have trailed him for decades. First arriving in the U.S. in 1982, he was deported in 1992 but allegedly reentered using an undisclosed identity. Attempts to secure citizenship over the years were repeatedly denied.
His deportation comes just months after his high-profile split from Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams. The couple, who married in November 2022, called it quits in February 2024 after just 15 months. Their divorce proceedings have been mired in legal delays, with Guobadia’s detention contributing to the postponements.
Williams has been granted temporary rights to remain in their shared Atlanta home pending a final ruling. The couple is expected to continue their divorce battle in court this week, with Guobadia appearing virtually due to his deportation.
Despite everything, Savet says Guobadia harbors no resentment toward former U.S. President Donald Trump and would welcome the chance to speak with him face to face.
