Wike Declares Tinubu’s Performance Has Crushed 2027 Opposition Coalition

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s developmental strides—especially within Abuja—have rendered the much-discussed 2027 opposition coalition dead on arrival.

Wike made the bold claim on Wednesday, June 12, during the commissioning of key infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital. The projects include the Maitama-Gishiri Bridge and the network of roads connecting Katampe, Jahi, and Mabushi districts.

In what appeared to be a direct swipe at opposition efforts to regroup ahead of the next general elections, the former Rivers State governor dismissed their chances, attributing their decline to what he described as Tinubu’s visible track record.

“The coalition is bound to fail, and it has failed. Your good works have killed the coalition,” Wike said, addressing President Tinubu, who was also present at the commissioning ceremony.

In recent months, leaders of opposition parties—among them former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar—have floated the idea of forming a united political front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. However, internal frictions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside persistent struggles to forge cross-party consensus, have stalled the plan.

Wike, who served as a PDP governor before joining Tinubu’s federal cabinet, took the opportunity to underscore his unwavering loyalty to the current administration.

“Some people will not be happy; many of them were born not to be happy,” he remarked. “Under Tinubu, contractors now have confidence in the government. Your good works have killed the coalition in Nigeria.”

Wike’s statements come amid speculation about his future political alignment and continued tension within his former party, the PDP, where his influence still looms large.

The FCT Minister has consistently maintained that his decision to back Tinubu in 2023 was rooted in his commitment to performance and accountability—values he insists the president has upheld since assuming office.
